Description
The lotus is the national flower of India and Vietnam. It is a symbol of the sun, of creation and rebirth, because at night the flower closes and at dawn it rises and opens again. The lotus grows from the mud at the bottom of the ponds and streams, or is cultivated in water gardens. Because such an exquisite flower emerges from pure mud, it represents the blossoming of the pure, true, or essential self from the 'mud' of the ego, or the lower self.
