Description
I wanted to get some shots during Christmas on Canyon Road, the famous art gallery walk in Santa Fe, New Mexico, because of all the beautiful lights. I went into one gallery courtyard and was photographing different trees that were decorated. By now it was around 11:00pm. - and freezing cold - and it was Christmas Eve. Suddenly I heard these odd sounds, and when I looked to see what it was, I saw the huge iron gate to the grounds of the gallery closing. I was too far away to make it out in time. What to do? The grounds were quite secure, with high iron fences, and with the closing of the gate, all the lights went out! I tried not to panic, but it was very cold, easily below freezing, and no one was around at that hour. I explored in the dark and finally found a flower bed that was raised enough that getting some leverage on the tall fence might work.....the snow was too deep to see anything underneath, and as I climbed into the flower bed, I got poked and scratched as I stumbled towards the iron fence topped with spears. Somehow I managed to get over this fence, I think out of pure will and adrenaline! This isn't the photographer's story about being chased by a lion to get the best shot, but for me it was quite an adventure!
